Palacio Solecio
Palacio Solecio is an eighteenth century former palace which has been sensitively restored and transformed into a stunning 68 room boutique hotel perfectly located in the old town of Malaga.
Palacio Solecio, Malaga
I was very much looking forward to my stay at Palacio Solecio as it is part of the Marugal portfolio. Other hotels under this umbrella include Cap Rocat (Mallorca) and Totem (Madrid) both of which I loved. I was not disappointed. The location is superb, its perfect position in the heart of the old town giving easy access to all that Malaga has to offer and is within walking distance of a multitude of cafes, restaurants and museums.
Welcomed with a smile, following a fuss free check in our luggage was taken immediately and spirited off to the room. I particularly liked the offer to have a welcome drink when it suited as this gives a pleasing degree of flexibility. My husband and I stayed in the entry level room, Solecio Double which although small had everything needed for a comfortable stay. On the first floor with views of the street below, the room was decorated in shades of cream and red, with all the usual luxury amenities present including full length mirror, free wi-fi, mini bar and coffee machine. The bathroom, again small but luxurious, offered a rain shower and full size refillable toiletries made especially for Palacio Solecio. A hairdrier, robes and slippers could all be found in the ample wardrobe. I particularly liked the lighting which was easy to use and thoughtfully designed. A turn down service provides water at night.
I had booked room only but took advantage of the breakfast offering on a couple of mornings (25 euros pp). Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant, Balausta and is a feast fit to serve in a palace. A buffet breakfast with an excellent continental choice is accompanied by a full menu of eggs, pancakes etc. With both excellent service and delicious food I would definitely recommend enjoying the breakfast at least once. The restaurant itself is a sight to behold and features a lantern ceiling and stunning archways looking up to the upper floors of the hotel. We didn’t eat in at night although there was always a good atmosphere and Michelin- starred chef José Carlos García’s cuisine is certainly enticing.
I particularly enjoyed the bar area which was intimate but with a real vibe and energy. Here you can enjoy a glass wine or a cocktail and a snack menu. We did have a small issue with service here but it did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the hotel.
The public areas of this hotel are beautiful and it encompasses all that a boutique hotel should offer. A small gym is also available. The happy staff were always on hand to help and give advice on where to eat, what to do in the city and answer any queries.
Overall, a very pleasant stay and one I would highly recommend if visiting Malaga.
