Puro Grand

Puro Grand

Puro Grand, a beautiful 15th century palace, has recently opened its doors in the heart of Palma having been sympathetically restored by the Puro Group.

Puro Grand Hotel

Located in the narrow streets of the atmospheric old town of Palma, from here you can explore the city as well as being in walking distance from both Portixol and Santa Catalina, two of my favourite areas.

With just 16 rooms, this luxury boutique hotel feels intimate without being claustrophobic. Behind the entrance door a beautiful lobby opens up before you with a small open plan restaurant, courtyard, private dining area and sweeping stairs. On arrival we were Immediately offered a welcome drink, check in was quick and painless and luggage transported to the room. As it was a beautiful day we headed straight for the beach club as the hotel arranges return complimentary transfers, a definite plus when staying in a city hotel.

On our return we were lucky enough to be staying in a duplex suite which exuded both space and style. It comprised a living area downstairs and a bedroom, bathroom and terrace upstairs all decorated in tones of cream, mustard and blue. All the usual modern amenities are present, including a TV both upstairs and downstairs (can’t think of anything that was missing!) and a decent supply of water in Puro brand glass bottles as well as coffee/tea making facilities. I particularly loved the bathroom which offered a double vanity unit and a huge double shower with a door out to the lovely terrace. Bathroom amenities are designed for Puro by SeaSkin and are both full sized and refillable. With efficient, silent air conditioning It really is a lovely space for a relaxing stay in the middle of the city.

Breakfast is a delicious affair with a variety of dishes all served to your table. I can definitely recommend the pancakes and the croque monsieur but all the usuals are also available.

What I really loved about this property is the fact that it feels authentic rather than overpolished. The attention to detail is evident in all areas of the hotel and the restoration uncovered ancient, arabic inscripted beams dating back centuries which were painstakingly recovered. Original flooring has been preserved and the Puro group should be proud of what has been achieved. A billiard table will also be a welcome addition upstairs. Also, the vibe here is relaxed and unpretentious, something that is not always easy to achieve. It is of course the staff that always make a hotel and everyone we encountered couldn’t do enough for us. I was really touched when asked at breakfast if I would like a honey and lemon drink as my voice had literally deserted me.

I must confess although I have visited the beach club in the past it would never have crossed my mind to stay at the original Puro hotel in Palma as I always had the notion that it was more of a cool, nightlife vibe which I was never looking for. Puro Grand could not be further from this and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend if you’re looking for a special stay in the historic old town of Palma.
