This new boutique hotel located in the heart of Palma did not disappoint. Originally built in the mid-16th century and formerly a soap factory, the cool white interiors punctuated with the local green tiles won me over in an instant.

Greeted with a smile and asked if I would like a glass of water, check in is painless and our luggage vanished quickly only to be reunited moments later in the room. With only 31 rooms and suites, we stayed in a standard double which although small has everything you need including a very comfortable bed. The local tiles are delightful and feature throughout accompanied by stylish, minimalist interiors. The bathroom features a large walk in shower, Byredo toiletries and bathrobes. Complimentary wi-fi access and refillable water bottles come as standard.

The public areas of the hotel are equally inviting. An open plan bar, restaurant and lounge, accessed from reception, leads out to a gorgeous small pool and terrace area. It’s a real treat to have a pool in the middle of the city especially in the heat of the summer. We also didn’t have a problem snagging a sun bed by the pool even though there are only a limited amount.

I really enjoyed the food here, both breakfast and dinner are delicious. A buffet breakfast provides a good choice of fruit, pastries, bread etc, and eggs can be ordered any style. Service is good. Restaurant Xalest is open to both guests and visitors alike and dinner is tapas style with croquettes, beef cheek, padron peppers and portobello mushrooms proving a winning combination.

Overall this is an excellent city hotel in a superb location, within easy walking distance of both Santa Catalina and the Old Town. The staff are delightful and help to create a relaxing atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble. I even came home with the same dress the receptionist wore as I liked it so much.

Highly recommended!
