The Weston
The Weston opened its doors last year in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. Formerly the Inn at Weston, it has been carefully renovated by the same family who owned and operated New York’s legendary Carlyle and Gramercy Park Hotels.
This idyllic country inn is a world away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Located on Main Street in the historic village of Weston, this is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of Vermont. The Inn itself is a quintessential country home, think white clapboard exterior surrounded by trees and a river running behind.
We were warmly welcomed by Malin and lucky for us promptly upgraded to room 4. (We should have been staying in room 3!) There are five guestrooms in the main building and three suites in an adjacent building. All rooms are individually decorated and luxuriously appointed with dark wood accents, wooden floors, fireplaces and all the amenities you would find in any top hotel. I have to be honest, although the room was lovely it was on the smaller side as was the bathroom but everything about it oozed quality. Beautiful bed linen, the fluffiest of towels, Diptyque toiletries and complimentary bottled water just add to the luxurious feel of the Inn. This room also comes with a delightful view of the gardens. The in room iPad has all the detail needed although I had to put it face down at night as it wasn’t conducive to sleep.
For a small Inn it certainly doesn’t skimp on facilities with a compact but perfectly functional gym, spa, gardens, pavillion, terrace, bocce court and restaurant. The Left Bank restaurant is excellent with a relaxed vibe and good service; I can wholeheartedly recommend the burger. If you’re only staying for a couple of nights I wouldn’t bother venturing out to eat, we did and then regretted it. Breakfast is not included in the price but can be taken outside in the summer months and is equally delicious. The granola and yoghurt was exceptional and the cooked breakfast divine. Also in development is The Farm where operations are overseen by the Left Bank’s Executive Chef Bretton Combs in partnership with multi-generational North Dakota farmer Antoinette Kessler. The fresh produce harvested daily will be transported to the restaurant where it will inspire weekly menu specials. My first time in Vermont coincided with the first time I have ever eaten oysters. Oyster Hour from 3pm to 5pm every Thursday during the summer in the Pavilion is a delight, shame it isn’t every day! Sipping a glass of wine and eating fresh oysters in the sunshine is something I could definitely get used to.
As always, it’s the staff who make a difference, creating a relaxing ambience and I couldn’t fault both Malin and Tamara who looked after us so warmly, attending to every need. The little touches are so special, from the complimentary tea, coffee and freshly baked muffins to the bottled water and cereal bars in the gym. I will also not forget the gorgeous scent wafting through the corridors in the main house. With the beauty of Vermont on your doorstep, dependent on season you can go out hiking, swimming in lakes, skiing or just mooch around the Vermont Country Store but whatever it is this is the perfect place to come home to.
The art of hospitality is alive and kicking in this picture perfect Vermont town. I would return in a heartbeat.
