Vocabolo Moscatelli
First impressions count. Vocabolo Moscatelli impressed from the moment we arrived.
Vocabolo Moscatelli REVIew
Let’s just say we had a little difficulty finding it so were not in the best frame of mind to start with, however the team welcomed us with a drink and a smile so any tensions melted quickly away. An easy check in followed while the luggage was whisked away to the room and as I had informed them this was a celebratory trip, a room upgrade was a very welcome delight.
Vocabolo Moscatelli is a luxury boutique hotel with just 12 bedrooms and suites, some with terrace or private garden. Originally a monastery, the old church has been retained and can now be used for events. Three years in the making, the team have created a dreamy Umbrian escape where no detail has been overlooked. The planting is already establishing itself and I’m sure will quickly enhance the buildings it surrounds. The attention to detail is outstanding and the contemporary design pairs well with the sympathetic restoration.
Rooms are split between the main building and the annexe and we were lucky enough to have ‘The Bridal Suite’ which really is a sight to behold. A living area, spacious bedroom with bath, dressing area and bathroom complete with original features from the old monastery delights at every turn. There is no TV which just adds to the relaxing nature of the property. Toiletries are by L:A BRUKET and full sized. Bathroom tiles in our suite had a blue green hue perfectly complementing the brass fittings. Tea and coffee making facilities are present as well as bottled water.
The pool area is blissful with comfortable double sun loungers and relaxation area. Just send a message to the staff via WhatsApp and your food or drinks will appear without having to move a muscle. The pool menu has a selection of light options easy to eat in situ and both the hummus/ dips and fruit salad were delicious.
The quality of the food matches the beautiful courtyard setting to create an enchanting outdoor experience. At night the courtyard comes into its own and the lighting makes for a magical setting. Pre dinner cocktails are prepared by Jakob and a comprehensive wine list ensure all price points are catered for which complements the delicious menu. It is also easy to walk out into the village and have dinner at the local restaurant which proved to be a good recommendation. Breakfast has its own courtyard and offers both continental and hot options served to your table at whatever time you choose.
Activities include wine tasting, truffle hunting and obviously visiting the surrounding Umbrian countryside but in all honesty it was difficult to pull ourselves away from this idyllic bubble.
This is a sublime escape with a real personal feel about it. Having followed the restoration of this boutique hotel I was worried that I might be disappointed with the reality. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was entirely blown away by the beauty of the design and the genuine warmth of hospitality. As with all hotels, it is the people that really make a difference and never is this more evident than with Frederik, Cathi and the team at Vocabolo Moscatelli. If you’re visiting Umbria this is a hotel you can’t afford to miss and if you’re not make a special trip anyway.
