Sao Lourenco do Barrocal
São Lourenço do Barrocal is a recently restored 19th century farmhouse hotel, winery and spa located on a historic family estate in a wild corner of Portugal’s unspoilt Alentejo region.
In the same family for over 200 years, the estate has its heart at the monte, an ancient small farming village, which has been brought carefully back to life as a remarkable hotel of understated luxury, surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves and vineyards.
The 40-key farmhouse hotel offers a range of spacious guest rooms and cottages housed within the original farm buildings along a central cobbled street, where interiors draw inspiration from the local farm villages. Traditional terracotta brick floors and whitewashed walls are complemented by soaring vaulted ceilings, beautifully crafted wooden furnishings, softly-textured handcrafted wool throws, and artworks inspired by the history of the estate. Activities include cycling, riding and swimming. A farm-to-table restaurant, thriving winery and a Susanne Kaufmann Spa complete the picture.
The estate is available for private hire on demand, offering the perfect setting for private events, spectacular weddings or multi-generational family celebrations.
