In Pursuit of the Greater Good
It’s good to see projects where businesses are in pursuit of the greater good and two such examples warmed my heart this week. The first is a winemaker based in the Franschhoek valley which just happens to be one of my all time favourite places and the second is a collaboration between Zoe Jordan and The Hummingbird Initiative.
Mullineux & Leeu wineries has started a new staff empowerment project called Great Heart Wines, aimed at improving the livelihoods of those who work for the company as well as their families. Conceived during the first South African lockdown last year - when an export and domestic sales ban was put in place - the wine brand is collectively owned by the winery staff. Profits from all sales under this label will go directly to them and staff will receive their first dividends from Great Heart sales in May this year. Launching exclusively in Wairose this week online and in shops, the first two wines from this venture are the vibrant and textured Great Heart Swartland Chenin Blanc (£14.99) and elegant and spicy Great Heart Swartland Red blend (£14.99) with both on an introductory offer at £10.99 until 6th April.
The limited edition Kanjoo Bomber Jacket by Zoe Jordan captures the beauty of Kenya, with 50% from each bomber sold donated directly to The Hummingbird Initiative, providing a Kanjoo Household with water for life. The black cashmere blend knitted bomber features a nod to the traditional Maasai shield , legendary wildlife and artisanal beading. Not only is this a fabulous addition to your wardrobe but also a lifeline for a family in Kenya. Priced at £375, you can buy it here.
