Just back from Sauze d'Oulx
I have just come back from a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas break in Sauze d’Oulx. While you won’t find Sauze d’Oulx in any luxury travel brochure it does have some delightful little spots and really is excellent value for money.
I actually laughed when my friend suggested Sauze d’Oulx as I just thought it was party central. (The same friend suggested Mallorca years ago which I am now a huge fan of but back then could only associate it with Magalluf.) How wrong can you be? Granted you’re not going to find any luxury hotels in this small Italian resort but the old town is charming and there are a few lovely little bars dotted around. Even better the transfer is only 1 hour and 15 mins from Turin where you can take a day off from skiing and check out the city via a day trip by train which is exactly what we did.
I would definitely recommend Enoteca Il Lampione in the old town, a lovely wine bar with a good atmosphere. Incredibly, when you order a drink in the evening, out comes the bread, cheese, ham and nibbles. Don’t you just love Italy!
Another lovely little spot in the old town is Caffe della Seggiovia. A buzzy atmosphere and cheerful service make this a great place for a drink before dinner. Lunch at Assieta bar also worth a visit.
On the slopes, the restaurants cook fresh pasta in front of you (another reason I love Italy!) Don’t miss La Marmotta, a chic cafe/restaurant with fantastic views from the huge glass windows, high up on the mountain and a real treat.
Luxury doesn’t always have to mean white gloved waiters or five star resorts and this little Italian town won me over.
Most def not a millennial. Too old to drink s*** wine. Penchant for luxury travel. Sharing my fav things in life; past, present and future.
