Just back from... Malaga
Malaga airport is a busy gateway to the coast and inland areas of southern Spain but as I have just discovered, Malaga city is worthy of a stop off all on its own.
Just back from Malaga
I thoroughly enjoyed a short break in this attractive Spanish city and with temperatures averaging 18 degrees in February, most days boasting blue sunny skies, it is a real antidote to the gloomy winter days in the UK. We stayed four nights but three would suffice. Alternatively you could stay longer and hop on the train to Cordoba or Seville. Another plus if you are doing a weekend break is the proximity to the airport. Hop on the airport train and you are in the city in just 15 minutes.
Stay
Hotel of choice, Palacio Solecio, proved to be the perfect place to stay. I loved the location, right in the centre of the old town, near numerous cafes and restaurants as well as an easy stroll down to the sea. This eighteenth century former palace has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel with beautiful interiors, good food and happy staff.
DO
Visit Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, take a walk up to the castle and soak in the history as well as being treated to great views of the city .
Visit the Picasso museum, after all this was his birthplace.
Walk along the promenade by the sea and treat yourself to a sangria in one of the cafes.
Wander through the old town, taking in the stunning Cathedral
Admire the architecture
Visit Mercado Central de Atarazanas and watch the locals doing their thing.
